The long, nearly three-year wait is finally over for fans of the kooky and mysterious. Netflix’s smash hit, Wednesday, is set to return for its highly anticipated second season, bringing more woe, mystery, and mayhem from the halls of Nevermore Academy. After becoming a global phenomenon upon its 2022 release, the series is back with a new structure, an expanded cast, and a darker tone.
Release Schedule and How to Watch
In a move becoming common for its major releases, Netflix will be splitting Wednesday Season 2 into two parts. The first installment, consisting of four episodes, will premiere globally on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 12 a.m. PT / 3 a.m. ET. As reported by Forbes, viewers in other regions can expect the release at corresponding times, such as 8 a.m. BST in the United Kingdom. Fans will then have to wait nearly a month for the conclusion, with the final four episodes of the eight-episode season scheduled to drop on September 3, 2025.
What to Expect in Season 2
The new season picks up with Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) returning to Nevermore Academy, now grappling with unwanted fame after saving the school in the first season. The official synopsis teases that she must navigate “family, friends and old adversaries, propelling her into another year of delightfully dark and kooky mayhem.” The season finale cliffhanger of a new stalker will also be a central plot point.
Creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have promised a more complex and darker journey. “Nothing is what it seems in Season 2,” Millar told Netflix’s Tudum. “Wednesday goes into this season thinking she knows Nevermore… But as soon as she gets back, nothing happens that she’s expecting.” The Addams family will also feature more prominently, with Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones), Gomez (Luis Guzmán), and Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez) having expanded roles. Pugsley will even join his sister as a student at Nevermore.
An Expanded Cast of Outcasts
While many fan favorites are returning—including Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair, Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin, and Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay—Season 2 is welcoming a host of new and legendary actors. Steve Buscemi joins the cast as Nevermore’s new principal, Barry Dort. Joanna Lumley will guest star as Grandmama Hester Frump, Wednesday’s beloved grandmother.
Other new series regulars include Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, and Owen Painter. The guest star list is particularly impressive, featuring Thandiwe Newton, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, and Christopher Lloyd, who famously played Uncle Fester in the 1990s Addams Family films. Perhaps the most anticipated new addition is pop icon Lady Gaga, who will appear in Part 2 as Rosaline Rotwood, a “mysterious and enigmatic” Nevermore teacher.
Episode Titles and Production
Continuing the theme from the first season, the episode titles for Part 1 are filled with wordplay on “woe.” According to TheWrap, the first four episodes are:
- Episode 1: “Here We Woe Again”
- Episode 2: “The Devil You Woe”
- Episode 3: “Call of the Woe”
- Episode 4: “If These Woes Could Talk”
The series, executive produced and partially directed by Tim Burton, has moved its production from Romania to Ireland for the second season. With Jenna Ortega also stepping into a producer role, the upcoming season is poised to build upon the massive success of its predecessor, which remains one of Netflix’s most-watched series of all time. As fans prepare to snap their fingers and dive back into this gothic world, the stage is set for a delightfully dreadful new chapter.
