A Historic Win Ends Three-Month Drought
After weeks of mounting excitement and a record-tying winless streak, the colossal $1.8 billion Powerball jackpot has finally been won. Two lucky ticket holders, one from Missouri and another from Texas, matched all six numbers in the Saturday, September 6, 2025, drawing, ending a drought that spanned over three months.
The winning numbers for the historic drawing were the white balls 11, 23, 44, 61, 62 and the red Powerball 17. The Power Play multiplier for the night was 2x.
The Life-Changing Prize
The two new multi-millionaires will split the grand prize, which stood as the second-largest in Powerball history. The jackpot had an estimated annuitized value of $1.8 billion and a total cash value of $826.4 million. Each winner must now choose between receiving their half of the prize as an annuitized payment of $895 million spread over 29 years, or a one-time lump sum payment of approximately $413.2 million before taxes.
The Texas winning ticket was sold at Big’s 103 gas station in Fredericksburg, a city about 75 miles west of Austin. This marks the 33rd time a Powerball jackpot has been won in Missouri, placing it second only to Indiana for the most wins by a state.
A Record-Tying Jackpot Run
The massive prize was the result of a long and suspenseful rollover period. The jackpot had not been won since May 31, 2025, when a single ticket in California claimed a $204.5 million prize. Since then, the grand prize rolled over 41 consecutive times, fueling a nationwide lottery fever.
Saturday’s drawing was the 42nd in the run, officially tying the game’s record for the most consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner, as reported by digitaltrendstoday.com. The astronomical odds of winning the grand prize stand at 1 in 292.2 million.
Millions in Other Prizes Awarded
While the spotlight is on the two jackpot winners, the drawing created numerous other millionaires across the country. Fifteen tickets matched all five white balls to win the game’s second-tier prize. The winners were from the following states:
- California (2)
- Colorado
- Florida
- Illinois (2)
- Kansas
- Massachusetts
- Michigan
- New Jersey
- New York (2)
- Ohio (2)
- Oregon
- Texas (2)
- West Virginia
Two of these winners, one in Kansas and one in Texas, had purchased the Power Play option for an additional dollar, which doubled their prize to $2 million. The Texas Lottery confirmed its non-jackpot big winners included a $2 million ticket sold in Tyler and two $1 million tickets sold in Austin and Midlothian.
What’s Next for Powerball?
Following the massive win, the Powerball jackpot has reset to its starting amount. The estimated jackpot for the next drawing on Monday, September 8, 2025, is $20 million, with an estimated cash value of $9.2 million. Drawings continue to be held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET.
