The 49th Annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks: Your Guide to the 2025 Spectacle

New York City Prepares for Dazzling 49th Annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks

New York City is set to host the 49th annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks show on Friday, July 4, 2025, promising a spectacular display of patriotism and pyrotechnics. After a brief relocation to the Hudson River in 2024, the nation’s largest July 4th fireworks show makes its grand return to the East River, illuminating the iconic Brooklyn Bridge and the lower Manhattan skyline. This year’s event is billed as a “one-of-a-kind” experience, meticulously crafted to captivate millions.

When and Where to Witness the Magic

The fireworks are tentatively scheduled to begin around 9:25 p.m. EDT, according to NYC311, and are expected to last approximately 25 to 30 minutes. The show will launch from the Brooklyn Bridge and four barges strategically positioned on the lower East River in Manhattan’s Seaport District, between Pier 17 and the Downtown Manhattan Heliport. Will Coss, the show’s executive producer, revealed that the display will feature over 80,000 shells and effects, promising an “uninterrupted, spectacular fireworks” experience.

Star-Studded Entertainment and Musical Score

Beyond the pyrotechnics, the celebration will feature a star-studded lineup of performances and guest appearances. Academy Award-winner and “West Side Story” star Ariana DeBose will host the NYC fireworks celebration. Musical performances are set to include the Jonas Brothers, Ava Max, Lenny Kravitz, Keke Palmer, Eric Church, and Trisha Yearwood. The entire 25-minute fireworks display will be synchronized to a unique musical score produced by the acclaimed Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and James Poyser, enhancing the visual spectacle with a powerful auditory experience.

Prime Viewing Locations and Important Restrictions

For those planning to experience the show in person, the fireworks will be visible from any area offering an unobstructed view of the sky above the lower East River. The New York Police Department (NYPD) will manage several prime public viewing areas along elevated portions of the FDR Drive, accessible at:

  • Montgomery Street at Madison Street
  • Robert F. Wagner Sr. Place and Brooklyn Bridge off/on ramps
  • Broad Street at Water Street

An Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible viewing area will be available at the Murry Bergtraum Softball Field, with access at Pike Slip and Cherry Street. While the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks show is free to attend, designated viewing areas in Brooklyn Bridge Park and sections of Pier 16 and Pier 17 at The Seaport were accessible via free tickets issued by the City of New York, which have since sold out.

Certain areas are not recommended for viewing due to obstructed views or limited access, including areas of the FDR in Midtown, The Battery, Battery Park City, East River Park, Hunter’s Point South Waterfront Park, Roosevelt Island, Governors Island, Gantry Plaza State Park, Pier 35, Pier 36, and Pier 42.

Watching from Home: Broadcast Details

For those who prefer to watch from the comfort of their homes, the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks special will air live on NBC from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. EDT. The show will also be available to stream live on Peacock. A telecast special will also air on Telemundo at 9 p.m. EDT, with an encore presentation on NBC at 10 p.m. EDT for those who miss the initial broadcast.

Logistics and Safety Information

Visitors attending the fireworks should be aware of significant road closures. The Brooklyn Bridge and the FDR Drive between the Brooklyn Battery Underpass and Delancey Street will be closed on July 4th. The NYPD may implement additional local road closures in lower Manhattan and northwest Brooklyn. Public transportation is highly recommended due to limited parking. For safety, several items are prohibited in viewing areas, including alcohol, backpacks, duffel bags, large bags, blankets, cigarettes/e-cigarettes, drones, large coolers, large packages, lawn chairs, motorized scooters, umbrellas, and weapons. Spectators may be subject to search.

Other Fireworks Displays

Beyond the main Macy’s event, Brooklyn will host a separate fireworks display at Coney Island Beach from 9 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on July 4th. Additionally, Breezy Point in Queens will feature another display on Saturday, July 5th, from 8 p.m. to 8:20 p.m.
