Seth Rollins Suffers Apparent Knee Injury, Loses to LA Knight at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event

In a significant development at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 13, 2025, veteran superstar Seth Rollins sustained an apparent knee injury during his grudge match against LA Knight. The match, which saw Knight secure a victory, adds another layer of complexity to Rollins’ tumultuous 2025, especially given his recent acquisition of the Money in the Bank contract and his new alliance.

The incident occurred when Rollins, attempting a backflip off the ropes following a flying senton, landed awkwardly on his right knee. He immediately collapsed and retreated to the corner, prompting the referee to intervene. Despite Knight’s attempt to continue the match, Rollins struggled to his feet, allowing Knight to capitalize with a BFT (Blunt Force Trauma) for the pinfall victory. Following the match, medical staff assisted Rollins to the back, raising concerns about the severity of his injury.

This latest encounter was the culmination of weeks of intense animosity between Rollins and LA Knight. Their rivalry ignited at the Money in the Bank premium live event, where Rollins controversially snatched the Money in the Bank contract from Knight, marking his second career victory in the prestigious ladder match. The bad blood escalated through the King of the Ring tournament, with Rollins’ associates Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed interfering in Knight’s matches, and Knight retaliating in kind. The feud saw Knight interject himself into Breakker’s Fatal 4-Way match on the June 9 episode of Raw, preventing Breakker from advancing. Breakker and Reed returned the favor on the June 13 edition of SmackDown, costing Knight his own Fatal 4-Way King of the Ring match. Knight continued his interference on the June 16 Raw, affecting Reed’s match. A subsequent match between Knight and Reed on SmackDown was interrupted by a Bron Breakker spear on Knight, followed by multiple Tsunamis from Reed. After a brief absence, Knight made a surprise return on the June 30 Raw, attacking Rollins from behind and brawling into the concourse, which ultimately led to their official match at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

The injury comes at a critical juncture for the 39-year-old Rollins, whose career has seen him achieve numerous accolades, including being a five-time world champion in WWE and a two-time Grand Slam Champion. Known for his ability to reinvent his persona, Rollins, whose real name is Colby Daniel Lopez, had recently reverted to simply ‘Seth Rollins’ from ‘Seth “Freakin” Rollins’ in March 2025, coinciding with a significant heel turn. At WrestleMania 41 Night 1 on April 19, 2025, Rollins defeated CM Punk and Roman Reigns with the unexpected assistance of Paul Heyman, solidifying his villainous shift. This led to the formation of a new formidable alliance with Heyman, Bron Breakker, and Bronson Reed, which was cemented after their victory at Saturday Night’s Main Event XXXIX on May 24, 2025. Just over a month ago, on June 7, 2025, Rollins secured his second Money in the Bank contract, a significant achievement that now hangs in the balance due to his injury.

Rollins has a history of knee issues, having torn his ACL, MCL, and medial meniscus in November 2015, forcing him to vacate the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. More recently, he announced an MCL injury in January 2024 and underwent surgery for a torn meniscus after WrestleMania XL in April 2024. This latest apparent knee injury raises immediate questions about his ability to cash in his newly won Money in the Bank contract and the future of his burgeoning alliance with Paul Heyman and his new associates. The wrestling world will be keenly awaiting updates on Rollins’ condition and how this setback will impact his current trajectory as one of WWE’s most prominent and controversial figures.
