Mac DeMarco Launches World Tour with New Album ‘Guitar’

Indie Icon Hits the Road with Fresh Music

Indie rock luminary Mac DeMarco has returned to the spotlight, releasing his sixth studio album, Guitar, and immediately embarking on an extensive world tour. The beloved Canadian musician kicked off the tour with the first of a three-night residency at the legendary Greek Theater in Los Angeles, offering fans a comprehensive look at his latest work and a journey through his celebrated discography.

Released on August 22, 2025, Guitar presents a raw and introspective collection of what has been described as wistful balladry. DeMarco took a hands-on approach to the project, recording, mixing, and producing the album himself in his Los Angeles home studio. The album was preceded by several singles, including “Home,” “Holy,” and “Phantom,” which gave listeners a taste of the artist’s evolving sound.

A Career-Spanning Kick-Off Show

The opening night in Los Angeles set a high bar for the tour, featuring a sprawling 23-song setlist that seamlessly blended new material with fan favorites. DeMarco dedicated a significant portion of the show to his new album, performing eight tracks from Guitar, including the singles “Holy” and “Phantom,” as well as other cuts like “Shining.”

Fans were also treated to a wide array of beloved classics from his catalog. The setlist included:

  • “Heart to Heart” from 2019’s Here Comes the Cowboy, a track that recently found viral fame on TikTok.
  • The title track from his critically acclaimed 2014 album, Salad Days.
  • “Freaking Out the Neighborhood” from his 2012 breakthrough, 2.
  • Selections from 2017’s This Old Dog and his massive 2023 demo compilation, One Wayne G.

A Prolific Period for the “Jizz Jazz” Pioneer

The release of Guitar continues a remarkably prolific period for DeMarco. In 2023 alone, he released two distinct projects that showcased his creative breadth. First came Five Easy Hot Dogs in January, a fourteen-track instrumental album recorded during a road trip. Just a few months later, in April, he surprised fans with One Wayne G, a colossal compilation featuring 199 tracks and a runtime of nearly nine hours. This collection of demos and finished pieces offered an intimate glimpse into his creative process between 2018 and 2023.

This era also saw DeMarco achieve his first-ever entry on the Billboard Hot 100, with his 2019 song “Heart to Heart” peaking at number 83 after gaining significant traction online. As noted by music analysts at digitaltrendstoday.com, this unexpected chart success highlights his enduring influence and cross-generational appeal.

What’s Next for DeMarco?

With the tour’s first leg successfully launched, Mac DeMarco is set for a busy year. Following his Los Angeles dates, he will head to the East Coast for major shows in Philadelphia, Baltimore, and a two-night stop at New York’s prestigious Radio City Music Hall. The tour will then continue across North America before heading to Europe in late October for dates in cities like Amsterdam, Paris, Berlin, and London. The extensive tour is scheduled to run through December 2025, bringing his unique brand of “slacker rock” to a global audience once more.
