Boxing Champion Gervonta Davis Arrested on Domestic Violence Charge in Florida

American boxing superstar Gervonta “Tank” Davis, 30, was arrested Friday morning, July 11, 2025, in Miami Beach, Florida, on a battery charge. The arrest stems from an alleged domestic violence incident that occurred nearly a month prior, on Father’s Day, June 15, outside his ex-girlfriend’s home in Doral, police reported. Davis is currently being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County, according to jail records. His bond status is listed as “to be set” in some online records, indicating the process is ongoing.

According to the arrest report from the Doral Police Department, the incident involved Davis and his ex-girlfriend, with whom he shares two children and had been in a romantic relationship for approximately four years. The altercation reportedly began as a verbal dispute when Davis arrived at her home to pick up their children for Father’s Day. The situation escalated physically when Davis allegedly struck the woman in the back of the head and then slapped her in the face as she leaned into his car to retrieve their daughter from the backseat. This alleged slap caused a minor cut to the inside of her lip. During the incident, the victim reportedly sent a text message to her mother, informing her that Davis was assaulting her and requesting her presence. The victim’s mother subsequently exited the residence, observing her daughter visibly distressed and crying while arguing with Davis. Police stated that cellphone video recorded by the mother captured part of the altercation, showing Davis throwing a small box at the victim. Upon his arrest, Davis reportedly declined to sign a Miranda warning form when questioned by police. He faces a battery charge, specifically battery causing bodily harm, as reported by Local10.com and The Guardian.

This is not the first time Davis has faced legal challenges. His history includes multiple arrests and charges related to domestic violence and other incidents. In February 2020, he was arrested on charges of simple battery/domestic violence after being seen grabbing a woman’s shirt near her throat and dragging her at a basketball game. In December 2022, just days before a scheduled fight, Davis was arrested and jailed in Florida on a battery domestic violence charge, with a 911 call recording a woman pleading for help and stating, “he’s going to kill me.” Although police noted an abrasion on the woman’s lip, she later recanted her accusation, and the fight proceeded. Beyond domestic disputes, Davis was indicted on fourteen counts in March 2021 for allegedly causing a serious hit-and-run car crash in Baltimore in November 2020, which sent four occupants, including a pregnant woman, to the hospital. He pleaded guilty in February 2023 to charges including leaving the scene of an accident involving bodily injury and driving on a suspended license. He was initially sentenced to 90 days of house arrest and three years of probation, but was taken into custody in June 2023 for violating the terms of his home detention, serving 44 days in jail before his release in July 2023. Despite his recurring legal troubles, Gervonta Davis remains one of boxing’s most prominent and successful figures. Known by his moniker “Tank,” he holds an impressive professional record of 30 wins, 0 losses, and 1 draw, with 28 of his victories coming by knockout. He is the current World Boxing Association (WBA) Lightweight Champion, a title he was elevated to in November 2023. His last fight, on March 1, 2025, against Lamont Roach Jr. at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, resulted in a controversial majority draw, allowing him to retain his WBA lightweight title. The decision sparked significant debate, particularly after Davis took a knee in the ninth round, which was not ruled a knockdown by the referee. This marked only the third time in his career that Davis has gone the distance in a fight. Prior to that, he secured an eighth-round knockout victory over Frank Martin on June 15, 2024, ending a 14-month layoff. Davis has also held titles in the super featherweight and super lightweight divisions, showcasing his versatility and power across multiple weight classes. His fights, particularly his April 2023 knockout victory over Ryan Garcia, have generated significant pay-per-view buys, cementing his status as a major draw in the sport. As the legal process unfolds, the boxing world will be watching closely to see how this latest incident impacts the career of one of its biggest stars.
