Boston Crusaders Secure First-Ever DCI World Championship Title in Historic 2025 Finals

In a climactic and historic conclusion to the 2025 Drum Corps International season, the Boston Crusaders were crowned World Champions for the first time in the organization’s history. The corps delivered a breathtaking performance of their show, “Boom,” earning a final score of 98.425 at the DCI World Championship Finals on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

The victory marks a monumental achievement for the Boston-based corps, which has been competing for 85 years. The win was hard-fought, capping a season that saw them in a tight race with the Bluecoats of Canton, Ohio. The Bluecoats, who were strong contenders throughout the summer, finished in a close second place with a score of 98.250 for their innovative program, “The Observer Effect.” The narrow 0.175-point margin between the top two corps underscored the intensity of the competition, which had been building since the semifinals where less than two-tenths of a point separated them.

The Boston Crusaders’ championship run was bolstered by a near sweep of the major caption awards. According to results posted by FloMarching, the corps’ excellence was recognized across the board as they secured the awards for Best Color Guard, Best Brass, and the prestigious Fred Sanford Award for Best Percussion Section. The Bluecoats did not go home empty-handed, earning top honors for Best Visual Performance and Best Overall General Effect, highlighting their strengths in design and audience engagement.

The 2025 DCI World Championship Finals showcased the top twelve corps in the world, each delivering a final, powerful performance. The official final standings as confirmed by Drum Corps International are as follows:

Santa Clara Vanguard’s performance of “The aVANt GUARD” earned them the bronze medal with a score of 96.700, a significant climb from their sixth-place finish in the previous season. The Blue Devils, the most decorated corps in DCI history, placed fourth with their show “Variations On A Gathering,” scoring 95.788. Rounding out the top five was Carolina Crown with a score of 94.800 for their program, “The Point of No Return.”

The Boston Crusaders’ victory is the first time a new corps has won the championship since the Bluecoats’ first title in 2016, signaling a potential shift in the competitive landscape of Marching Music’s Major League. Their show, “Boom,” featured a diverse musical repertoire, including pieces by Tigran Hamasyan, Hans Zimmer, and Sara Bareilles, which resonated with both judges and the packed audience at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The evening was a celebration of the dedication, artistry, and athleticism of thousands of young performers. After a summer-long tour of intense competition, the 2025 season concluded by crowning a new and historic champion, setting an exciting precedent for the seasons to come.
