Boston Crusaders Make History with First-Ever DCI World Championship Title in 2025

In a stunning and historic conclusion to the 2025 Drum Corps International (DCI) season, the Boston Crusaders have been crowned World Champions for the first time in the organization’s 85-year history. The corps captured the coveted Founders Trophy with their explosive show, “BOOM,” earning a final score of 98.425 at the DCI World Championship Finals on Saturday, August 9, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

The victory marked a monumental achievement for the Boston-based corps, which edged out the 2024 champions, the Bluecoats of Canton, Ohio, in a fiercely contested finale. The Bluecoats, performing “The Observer Effect,” finished in second place with an impressive score of 98.250, a mere 0.175 points behind the champions. The win makes the Boston Crusaders the first corps to win their inaugural title since the Bluecoats themselves achieved the feat in 2016, signaling a potential shift in the competitive landscape of Marching Music’s Major League.

The Crusaders’ championship performance was not only a hit with the judges for its overall impact but also dominated the caption awards. The corps secured the awards for Best Color Guard, Best Brass, and the prestigious Fred Sanford Award for Best Percussion Section. The Bluecoats did not go home empty-handed, earning top honors for Best Visual Performance and Best Overall General Effect, underscoring the razor-thin margins and exceptional quality at the top of the leaderboard.

The road to the finals was a nail-biter, with the top two corps trading placements throughout the season. After the Semifinals competition on Friday, August 8, the Bluecoats held a slight lead with a score of 97.763 to the Boston Crusaders’ 97.575. However, the Crusaders delivered a powerful and clean final performance to overcome the deficit and claim the championship.

The 2025 DCI World Championship Finals showcased the top twelve corps in the world, each delivering a unique and captivating performance. Following the top two were Santa Clara Vanguard, who secured the bronze medal with a score of 96.700. The Blue Devils, who hold the record for the most DCI titles, finished in fourth place.
