Amanda Bynes Embarks on ‘Career Renaissance’ with OnlyFans, Aims to Share Nickelodeon Stories

Actress Amanda Bynes, 39, was recently observed in Calabasas, California, on a rare solo outing, appearing downcast weeks after announcing her foray into the subscription-based platform OnlyFans. This new venture, however, is reportedly viewed by Bynes as a significant step towards a ‘career renaissance,’ offering her a unique avenue to connect with fans and, notably, to share insights from her past experiences at Nickelodeon.

Bynes publicly launched her OnlyFans account in April, clarifying her intentions to fans that the platform would be used primarily for communication and would not feature any ‘sleazy’ content. A source close to the former child star revealed to DailyMail.com that the move is multifaceted, aiming to generate income, showcase her fashion designs, and potentially serve as a springboard into reality television. Crucially, the platform is also envisioned as a safe space for Bynes to disclose ‘what happened from her past at Nickelodeon,’ treating it akin to a virtual ‘meet and greet’ for her fanbase.

This decision to open up about her Nickelodeon years comes approximately a year after the release of the Discovery documentary, Quiet On Set: The Dark Side Of Kids TV. The documentary, which aired in 2024, brought to light allegations of a ‘toxic environment’ at the network during the early 2000s. It specifically highlighted the ‘close’ relationship between producer Dan Schneider and teenage stars, including Bynes, who is 20 years his junior. The documentary featured a circulating clip from Bynes’s recurring sketch, ‘Amanda’s Jacuzzi,’ showing a bikini-clad Bynes in a hot tub with a fully clothed Schneider, prompting commentators to recall their ‘very close’ and ‘physically’ close interactions.

Karyn Finley Thompson, an editor on several Nickelodeon shows, noted in the documentary, “There were many times that I saw Amanda sitting behind him, hugging him or giving him like a neck massage or whatever. Dan and Amanda had a close relationship, and I didn’t think anything different than that. The hot tub scene though I always thought was a little odd.” Schneider departed from Nickelodeon in 2018 amidst numerous misconduct allegations. While the network stated an internal investigation found no evidence to back the claims, Schneider himself addressed the allegations in a 19-minute YouTube video, expressing regret for his past actions and apologizing for his behavior, including frequent requests for massages from female staff. However, he denied any involvement in sexual abuse and, in May, filed a defamation lawsuit against the documentary’s producers, labeling the show a ‘hit job.’

Bynes’s journey in the public eye has been well-documented since she retired from acting in 2010. Following a highly publicized breakdown in the early 2010s, she was placed under a legal conservatorship by her parents in 2013, which lasted for nine years. Despite these challenges, Bynes pursued her passion for fashion and art, graduating with an Associate’s of Art degree from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in 2014. More recently, in December 2024, she hosted a pop-up art show that garnered celebrity attendance, including Miley Cyrus’s younger sister, Noah.

The source indicated that Bynes is resolute in her new path, stating she ‘doesn’t care if friends won’t like that she is doing this’ as she is ‘looking to change course on how she has lived her life the last few years.’ With her OnlyFans page charging fans over $50 per month for access to content that currently includes mirror selfies, Bynes is clearly charting a new course, aiming to redefine her career and narrative on her own terms.
