Micah Parsons Demands Trade From Cowboys, Citing Disrespect and Stalled Negotiations

In a stunning development, Dallas Cowboys superstar edge rusher Micah Parsons has formally requested a trade, declaring in a public statement that he “no longer want[s] to be here.” The move, announced Friday, marks the culmination of a contentious and deteriorating contract negotiation with the franchise.

Parsons, a three-time All-Pro and one of the most dominant defensive players in the NFL, released a lengthy statement on social media detailing his grievances with the Cowboys’ front office. He cited a lack of formal negotiations, public criticisms from ownership, and a feeling of disrespect as the primary drivers behind his decision. The trade request was personally submitted to Cowboys Executive Vice President, Stephen Jones.

“Yes I wanted to be here. I did everything I could to show that I wanted to be a Cowboy and wear the star on my helmet,” Parsons wrote. “Unfortunately I no longer want to be here. I no longer want to be held to close door negotiations without my agent present. I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization, our fans and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me.”

According to Parsons, his camp, led by agent David Mulugheta, attempted to initiate contract extension talks after the 2023 season, hoping to secure a long-term deal early. He claims the team was not interested in negotiating at that time. The situation escalated in March when a meeting with owner Jerry Jones, intended to be about leadership, turned into an informal contract discussion. Parsons stated he did not believe it was a formal negotiation, but when his agent followed up, he was told a deal was “pretty much already done.”

“Up to today the team has not had a single conversation with my agent about a contract,” Parsons’ statement continued. “Not one demand has been made by my agent about money, years or anything else.”

The relationship has been visibly strained for months. In July, Jerry Jones publicly commented on Parsons’ injury history, incorrectly stating he missed six games last season when he only missed four. Jones also downplayed fan chants of “Pay Micah!” at training camp, calling them a “faint little sound” compared to the support CeeDee Lamb received during his contract talks in 2024.

Since being drafted 12th overall in 2021, Parsons has been a transformative force for the Dallas defense. His 52.5 sacks are the fifth-most ever for a player through their first four seasons. He and Hall of Famer Reggie White are the only players in NFL history to record at least 12 sacks in each of their first four years in the league.

This historic production places the 26-year-old in a position to command a market-setting contract. The current benchmark for defensive players was recently set by Pittsburgh’s T.J. Watt ($41 million per year) and Cleveland’s Myles Garrett (a four-year, $160 million extension). Given that Parsons is younger than both, his next contract is expected to surpass those figures.

The Cowboys now face a franchise-altering decision. They can attempt to repair the fractured relationship and meet Parsons’ contract demands, or they can explore the trade market for their best defensive player. Should they choose the latter, there will be no shortage of suitors. Reports have already begun to speculate on potential landing spots, with teams like the Green Bay Packers mentioned as a logical fit due to their need for a pass rusher and existing relationship with Parsons’ agent. For now, the ball is firmly in the Cowboys’ court as the NFL world watches to see how they handle the departure of a player who once dreamed of being a Cowboy for life.
