The next chapter for Tom Holland’s web-slinger is officially swinging into production. Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have announced that the fourth installment in their Spider-Man series is titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with a theatrical release date set for July 31, 2026. The film marks a pivotal moment for the character, promising a fresh start following the universe-altering events of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The project, which will be part of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is set to begin principal photography in August 2025. Filming will take place across the pond, with the city of Glasgow, Scotland, transforming to stand in for New York City, and soundstage work being conducted at the renowned Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, England. Helming the new adventure is director Destin Daniel Cretton, known for his work on Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. He will be working from a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who penned the previous three films in the series, ensuring a consistent voice for Peter Parker’s journey.
Tom Holland will, of course, reprise his role as Peter Parker. He is joined by returning cast members Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, though the extent of their roles remains to be seen after their memories of Peter were erased. The cast also features exciting additions and reprisals that signal a significant tonal shift for the franchise. Jon Bernthal is confirmed to return as the formidable vigilante Frank Castle / The Punisher, and Charlie Cox will once again portray Matt Murdock / Daredevil. The inclusion of these gritty, street-level heroes has fueled speculation about the film’s more grounded direction. Newcomers to the cast include Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) and Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear) in currently undisclosed roles.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has elaborated on this new direction, stating that the film will deliver on the promise made at the end of No Way Home. With his identity erased and his advanced Stark technology gone, Peter Parker is now on his own, protecting New York from “street-level crime as opposed to world-ending events.” This focus allows for interactions with characters like The Punisher, who famously first appeared in a Spider-Man comic (The Amazing Spider-Man #129). Feige noted that Cretton is drawing inspiration directly from classic comic book covers to shape the film’s visual style.
The title, Brand New Day, is a direct reference to a major 2008 comic book storyline that similarly served as a soft reboot for Spider-Man, resetting his status quo after a controversial series of events. While the comic storyline was divisive among fans, the title aptly describes the new reality for the MCU’s Peter Parker, who is now a true friendly neighborhood Spider-Man without the backing of the Avengers or the world knowing his secret.
Development on the fourth film began shortly after the release of No Way Home but was temporarily paused in solidarity with the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike. With the creative team now fully assembled and filming imminent, anticipation is high for what this new, more grounded chapter will bring to one of Marvel’s most beloved heroes when it hits theaters in summer 2026.
