Tulane Basketball Star Gregg Glenn III Dies at 22 in Tragic Accident

Gregg Glenn III, a prominent forward for the Tulane Green Wave men’s basketball team, has tragically passed away at the age of 22. The university confirmed his death over the weekend, describing it as a “tragic accident.” Glenn, a rising senior, was a beloved figure known for his vibrant personality and significant contributions both on and off the court.

Sarah Cunningham, Tulane’s Vice President of Student Affairs, expressed profound sadness in a letter to the university community. “He was a talented student-athlete who enriched our lives with his spirit, dedication, and passion for both sports and academics,” Cunningham wrote, as reported by USA Today. “Gregg was an outstanding athlete on our men’s basketball team and an individual who brought joy and light to those around him. His commitment to excellence inspired many of us.” She further noted his “infectious personality, positive energy, and kindness” that “brightened every room he entered.”

Tulane coach Ron Hunter also released a statement, highlighting the deep impact Glenn had on the team. “Our program was devastated this morning as we learned of the passing of our beloved Gregg Glenn III,” Hunter said. “He was not only an exceptional athlete, but also a remarkable person who brought energy, dedication and kindness to our team and community. Gregg’s spirit and passion will be deeply missed, and our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time. We will honor his memory by continuing to celebrate the impact he had on all of us.” (USA Today)

Standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing 230 pounds, Glenn had a breakout 2024-25 season for the Green Wave. He started all 34 games, finishing fourth on the team in scoring with an average of 10.6 points per game, while shooting an efficient 49.8% from the field. He also ranked second on the team in both rebounds (5.3 per game) and assists (3.1 per game). Glenn scored in double figures in 21 games, including three instances where he surpassed 20 points, and recorded three double-doubles. His impressive performance earned him two selections to the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Weekly Honor Roll (January 27 and March 3), according to TulaneGreenWave.com and Detroit Free Press.

Before his impactful tenure at Tulane, Glenn began his collegiate career at the University of Michigan. A former four-star recruit out of Calvary Christian Academy in Pompano Beach, Florida, he played in four games during his freshman 2022-23 season for the Wolverines, averaging 1.5 points and 1.5 rebounds in limited minutes (MGoBlue.com). He then transferred to Tulane, where he quickly found his stride and became a pivotal player.

Glenn’s basketball prowess was evident long before college. At Calvary Christian Academy in Fort Lauderdale, he was a three-time all-state honoree and helped his team secure back-to-back FHSAA state titles in 2021 (Class 3A) and 2022 (Class 4A). His talent also extended to the international stage, where he proudly represented Team USA. In 2019, he helped the U.S. win a gold medal at the FIBA Americas U16 Championship in Brazil (USAB.com).

Gregg Glenn III’s passing leaves a void in the Tulane community and the broader college basketball world. He will be remembered not only for his athletic achievements but also for the joy, dedication, and kindness he shared with everyone around him.
