Tragedy Strikes Entertainment World: ‘American Idol’ Music Supervisor Robin Kaye and Husband Thomas Deluca Found Dead in Apparent Double Homicide

Tragedy Strikes Entertainment World: ‘American Idol’ Music Supervisor Robin Kaye and Husband Thomas Deluca Found Dead in Apparent Double Homicide

The entertainment industry is reeling from the shocking news that Robin Kaye, a highly respected music supervisor for the hit show “American Idol,” and her husband, musician Thomas Deluca, were found dead in their Encino, Los Angeles home on Monday, July 14, 2025. Authorities are investigating the deaths as a gruesome double homicide.

Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers responded to the couple’s residence in the 4700 block of White Oak Avenue around 2:30 PM on Monday for a welfare check. The request was initiated after family members reported not having heard from Robin and Thomas for four days. Upon arrival, officers observed blood at the front entrance of the home. To gain entry, they were forced to smash a window. Inside, both Robin and Thomas, both aged 70, were discovered with apparent gunshot wounds to the head. Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department pronounced them dead at the scene. TMZ was the first to identify the couple as the victims. The New York Post reported that Kaye was found in the pantry and Deluca in the bathroom.

The LAPD’s Valley Bureau Homicide Division has launched an intensive investigation into the deaths. While a broken window was noted at the scene, suggesting a possible forced entry, authorities indicated that the home was not ransacked, which might point away from a typical burglary as the primary motive. As of now, no suspects have been identified or taken into custody, and the motive behind this tragic incident remains unknown. Deadline and Variety confirmed the ongoing homicide investigation.

A significant detail in the investigation is a prior police call to the same address just days before the discovery of the bodies. On Thursday, July 10, 2025, neighbors had reported seeing a suspicious individual hopping a fence at the property, possibly armed. Officers responded to this earlier call but found no signs of forced entry at that time and subsequently left. Investigators are currently working to determine if this previous incident is connected to the double homicide. TMZ and The New York Post highlighted this earlier police response.

Robin Kaye was a highly accomplished professional in the music and television industries. She served as the music supervisor for “American Idol” for at least 15 seasons, a role for which she earned multiple Guild of Music Supervisors Awards. Her extensive career also included music supervision credits on other prominent shows such as “Lip Sync Battle,” the NAACP Image Awards, “Miss USA,” and “Miss Universe.” Kaye began her journey in the music business on the record company and artist management side, eventually leading music licensing divisions at Universal Records and PolyGram Records. In 2000, she founded her own company, SyncroniCity, and also served as Vice President of the Guild of Music Supervisors. The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline provided details on her impressive career.

Thomas Deluca was a talented songwriter and musician, known for his work in the music scene. His last album, “Street Rock,” was released in 2022. The couple’s Encino home, valued at approximately $4.5 million, also has a unique history, having been previously owned by the late rapper Juice WRLD. While the property itself was described as secure with high walls and security spikes, neighbors in the affluent Encino area have reported a recent increase in burglaries and break-ins. However, authorities have stated that they do not believe there is a broader threat to the community in connection with this specific incident. The New York Post and Variety reported on the property and neighborhood context.

A spokesperson for “American Idol” released a statement expressing profound sorrow: “We are devastated to hear of Robin and her dear husband, Tom’s, passing. Robin has been a cornerstone of the Idol family since 2009 and was truly loved and respected by all who came in contact with her. Robin will remain in our hearts forever and we share our deepest sympathy with her family and friends during this difficult time.” The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline shared this heartfelt message.

As the investigation continues, the entertainment community and those who knew Robin Kaye and Thomas Deluca mourn the loss of two individuals deeply embedded in the world of music and television.
