Broncos Dominate Cowboys 44-24, Dallas’ Defensive Woes Continue

Broncos Rout Cowboys in Week 8 Showdown

Denver, CO – The Denver Broncos delivered a resounding 44-24 defeat to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, October 26, 2025, extending their winning streak to five games and solidifying their position atop the AFC West. For the Cowboys, the loss marked a significant setback, dropping their record to 3-4-1 and raising further questions about their struggling defense.

Broncos’ Offensive Explosion Led by Nix and Rookies

The Broncos’ offense, donning their 1977 throwback uniforms, put on their best performance of the season, scoring six total touchdowns and posting their highest point total in Denver since 2014. Quarterback Bo Nix was exceptional, tying a career high with four passing touchdowns. He completed 19 of 29 passes for 247 yards, despite an early interception, and finished with a stellar 117.4 passer rating.

Rookie running back RJ Harvey was a breakout star, scoring three touchdowns – two rushing and one receiving – becoming the first Broncos rookie since 2002 to achieve this feat. His 40-yard rushing touchdown was Denver’s longest since 2021. Wide receiver Troy Franklin also had a career day with two touchdowns, while rookie Pat Bryant notched his first career touchdown with an acrobatic 24-yard grab. Running back J.K. Dobbins contributed significantly on the ground, rushing for 111 yards, his second 100-yard game of the season, as the Broncos collectively rushed for 180 yards.

The Broncos’ scoring was relentless, putting up 27 points in the first half alone, their most first-half points at home since 2013. Their defense also played a crucial role, holding the Cowboys to a field goal after an early interception and securing two interceptions of their own, one by rookie cornerback Jahdae Barron and another by outside linebacker Dondrea Tillman, who returned it 38 yards.

Cowboys’ Defense Under Fire Amidst Injury Concerns

The Dallas Cowboys’ defense, which has been a point of concern throughout the season, struggled immensely against Denver. They surrendered 44 points, the most they’ve allowed since giving up 44 to the New Orleans Saints last season. This marks the fifth time in eight games this season that Dallas has allowed 30 points or more, with their average points allowed now standing at 31.25 per game.

Hall of Famer Michael Irvin did not mince words, expressing his frustration on social media, stating, "This CAN NOT be an [NFL] defense that’s wearing the [Dallas Cowboys’] helmets !!!!!!!" The Broncos racked up 426 total yards and averaged 7.5 yards per play, with Nix remaining unsacked throughout the game.

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott had a challenging outing, recording his lowest passer rating of the season. He completed 19 of 31 passes for 188 yards, threw no touchdowns, and was intercepted twice. Head Coach Brian Schottenheimer acknowledged the team "shot themselves in the foot" due to multiple pre-snap penalties, including a false start on 3rd and 1 from the goal line early in the game. Javonte Williams provided the Cowboys’ only offensive touchdowns with two 1-yard runs against his former team, bringing his season total to eight rushing touchdowns. Backup quarterback Joe Milton III entered the game late in the fourth quarter, connecting with Jalen Tolbert for a 35-yard touchdown.

The Cowboys’ defensive struggles were compounded by significant injuries. Safety Alijah Clark left the game with a rib injury, joining fellow safeties Juanyeh Thomas and Donovan Wilson (out with migraines) and Malik Hooker (on injured reserve). Linebacker Jack Sanborn was also ruled out before the game with a groin injury, leaving the team with limited depth.

The Post-Parsons Era: A Work in Progress

This season marks a new era for the Cowboys, particularly on defense, following the blockbuster trade of All-Pro defensive end Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers on August 28, 2025. As reported by digitaltrendstoday.com, Dallas acquired three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark and first-round draft picks in 2026 and 2027 in exchange for Parsons, who subsequently signed a record-breaking contract with the Packers.

The defense, now anchored by Clark and relying on players like Dante Fowler Jr., Sam Williams, and rookie Donovan Ezeiruaku to generate pressure, is clearly still finding its identity. The performance against the Broncos highlighted the challenges of replacing a generational talent like Parsons.

Looking Ahead

The Broncos (6-2) will look to continue their impressive run next Sunday when they travel to Houston. Meanwhile, the Cowboys (3-4-1) face another critical test as they host the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football in Week 9. Owner Jerry Jones indicated that while the game’s outcome wouldn’t dictate trade deadline decisions, it would help identify areas for improvement. With the trade deadline approaching on November 4, the Cowboys face tough decisions on how to address their roster deficiencies.
