New Documents Surface from Epstein Estate
Democrats on the House Oversight Committee on Friday released partial records from a third batch of documents obtained from the estate of the late financier and convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein. The newly publicized files, which include excerpts from Epstein’s daily schedules, flight logs, and financial ledgers, have brought several high-profile names back into the spotlight, including Elon Musk, Steve Bannon, Peter Thiel, and Prince Andrew.
The release is part of an ongoing investigation into Epstein’s network of associates. According to a statement from the committee, this third batch contains 8,544 documents in total, with the released pages being a small, redacted portion to protect victims’ identities. As reported by digitaltrendstoday.com, the committee expects to receive more documents as the production continues.
What the Documents Reveal
The documents primarily consist of scheduling notes and logs from after Epstein’s 2008 conviction for soliciting a minor for prostitution. While they do not contain accusations of wrongdoing against the individuals named, they suggest a level of contact or planned meetings. Key entries include:
- Elon Musk: An entry in Epstein’s schedule for December 6, 2014, reads, “Reminder: Elon Musk to island Dec. 6 (is this still happening?).”
- Steve Bannon: The former White House chief strategist was noted for a scheduled breakfast with Epstein on February 16, 2019.
- Peter Thiel: The tech billionaire and investor had a lunch scheduled with Epstein on November 27, 2017.
- Bill Gates: A “tentative breakfast party” with the Microsoft co-founder was listed for December 5, 2014.
- Prince Andrew: The Duke of York is listed as a passenger on a May 12, 2000, flight on Epstein’s private jet from New Jersey to Florida.
High-Profile Reactions and Denials
The release prompted swift reactions. Elon Musk responded to a post on X about the scheduled island visit with a concise denial, writing, “This is false.” Musk has previously stated that while Epstein repeatedly invited him to his private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands, he always declined.
Others mentioned have previously addressed their connections to Epstein. Bill Gates has publicly called his meetings with Epstein a “huge mistake.” Peter Thiel has acknowledged meeting Epstein but stated he was “rather naive” about his agenda. Previous reports have indicated that Steve Bannon met with Epstein in 2019 for a documentary project that was never released. Prince Andrew has consistently denied all allegations of wrongdoing related to his association with Epstein.
A Partisan Divide Over Transparency
The document release has also ignited a political firestorm on Capitol Hill. Democrats on the committee argue the files underscore the need for full transparency to achieve justice for Epstein’s victims. “It should be clear to every American that Jeffrey Epstein was friends with some of the most powerful and wealthiest men in the world,” said Oversight spokesperson Sara Guerrero in a statement. “Oversight Democrats will not stop until we identify everyone complicit in Epstein’s heinous crimes.”
Conversely, Republicans on the committee accused their Democratic counterparts of politicizing the investigation by selectively releasing information. A spokesperson for the committee’s Republicans claimed Democrats were “meaninglessly cherry-picking documents” and “intentionally withholding documents that contain names of Democrat officials.” They asserted that the information released was “old news” and promised to release the documents in full to provide genuine transparency for survivors.
As the House Oversight Committee continues to review the thousands of documents from Epstein’s estate, the debate over their contents and the manner of their release is likely to intensify, keeping the late financier’s extensive network a subject of public and political scrutiny.
