Nationwide Manhunt Underway After Activist’s Assassination
The Federal Bureau of Investigation has released images of a “person of interest” as the nationwide manhunt intensifies for the individual who assassinated conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA was fatally shot by a single bullet on Wednesday while speaking at an outdoor event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
In a public appeal, the FBI’s Salt Lake City office shared two photos of the individual, described by authorities as a male who “appears to be of college age.” The images show a person in a stairwell wearing dark clothing, a baseball cap, and sunglasses. Law enforcement is urging anyone with information to contact them as they work around the clock to identify and apprehend the shooter, who remains at large.
Key Evidence Recovered as Investigation Deepens
Authorities have made significant progress in the investigation, piecing together the shooter’s movements and recovering crucial evidence. According to Utah’s Department of Public Safety, the suspect arrived on campus at 11:52 a.m. local time, proceeded to a rooftop overlooking the event, and fired the fatal shot at approximately 12:20 p.m. The gunman then allegedly jumped from the roof and fled into a nearby neighborhood.
During a press conference, officials announced the recovery of what they believe is the murder weapon from a wooded area. The firearm was identified as a “high-powered, bolt-action rifle,” specifically an older model Mauser .30-06 caliber rifle. President Donald Trump, a close ally of Kirk, announced he would posthumously award him the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor. Leaders from both parties have denounced the killing.
