Jaswinder Bhalla, Legendary Punjabi Comedian, Passes Away at 65

The Punjabi entertainment industry is in mourning following the passing of veteran actor and beloved comedian Jaswinder Bhalla. He died on Friday, August 22, 2025, at the age of 65. According to multiple reports, Bhalla breathed his last in the early hours of the morning at Fortis Hospital in Mohali, where he had been receiving treatment after being unwell for several months. One report from Moneycontrol suggested he had suffered a brain stroke.

His sudden demise has sent shockwaves through the industry and among his legions of fans. The final rites for the celebrated artist are scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 23, at 12 noon at the Balongi cremation ground in Mohali. Family, friends, and colleagues are expected to gather to pay their last respects.

Jaswinder Bhalla was a stalwart of Punjabi cinema, widely regarded for redefining comedy with his unique flair, impeccable timing, and sharp satirical dialogues. Before gracing the silver screen, Bhalla became a household name in Punjab during the late 1980s and 1990s through his audio cassette series, “Chhankata.” These comedy albums, created with his co-performer Bal Mukund Sharma, were immensely popular and laid the foundation for his illustrious career.

His transition to cinema saw him become one of the most sought-after character actors, known for adding a memorable comedic touch to any storyline. His sharp wit, timeless characters & contribution to Punjabi cinema brought joy to millions. A huge loss to our culture & entertainment world.”

Politician Swati Maliwal also paid tribute, stating, “A true icon who used humour not just to entertain but to deliver powerful social messages. His contribution to art and society will always be remembered.”

Jaswinder Bhalla is survived by his wife, Paramjit Kaur Bhalla, a son, Yuvraj Bhalla, who has followed in his father’s footsteps as an actor, and a daughter, Jasmine Bhalla. His legacy as a master of comedy and a cultural icon is indelible, and his work will continue to bring smiles to faces for years to come.
