The Texas-based fast-food giant Whataburger is celebrating a significant milestone, its 75th anniversary, with a series of promotions and events designed to thank its loyal customers. The centerpiece of the celebration is a one-day offer on Friday, August 8, allowing fans to purchase the chain’s classic Whataburger for just 75 cents.
This special pricing, dubbed National Whataburger Day, is a nod to the company’s founding in 1950. To take advantage of the deal, customers must be members of the Whataburger Rewards program. The offer is exclusively digital and can be redeemed through the Whataburger app or website between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. local time on August 8. The promotion is limited to one 75-cent burger per rewards account, with any customizations or add-ons incurring an additional charge.
In a statement, Whataburger President and CEO Debbie Stroud expressed gratitude for the company’s long history. “As we celebrate this milestone, we’re not just marking time – we’re honoring the memories, the traditions, and the quality experiences that keep folks coming back,” Stroud said. “This anniversary is our way of saying thank you. Thank you for your trust, your loyalty, and for letting us be part of your table.”
The festivities extend beyond the discounted burgers. In Corpus Christi, Texas, the city where the first Whataburger stand opened, the company is hosting a grand birthday celebration at Whataburger Field on August 8. The event will feature a minor league baseball game between the Corpus Christi Hooks and the Tulsa Drillers, scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m. Fans are encouraged to participate in an “Orange Out” by wearing the brand’s signature color.
The game night will include several giveaways for attendees. According to a company press release, the first 1,500 fans to arrive will receive a limited-edition Whataguy mask, while the first 5,000 will get a signature Whataguy cape. As a final treat, every guest will receive a coupon for a free Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit upon exiting the stadium, which will also feature a dazzling orange fireworks display to cap off the evening.
For those who enjoy collecting memorabilia, Whataburger is also releasing a new series of limited-edition 32-ounce commemorative cups. The second collection of these cups began rolling out on August 5 with a design inspired by the chain’s 75th-anniversary table tents. Two more designs are set to follow: a silver-striped anniversary cup on August 12 and a classic A-frame tribute cup on August 19. These collectible cups are available for a limited time at select restaurants and for purchase online at the Whatastore.
This anniversary promotion is part of a year-long celebration that has included the return of fan-favorite menu items from the “WhataVault” and a “75 Stories for 75 Years” campaign sharing memories from dedicated customers. With over 1,100 restaurants across 17 states, the 75-cent burger deal provides a tangible way for the brand to connect with the widespread community it has built over seven and a half decades.
