The long-running and iconic animated series “South Park” is making a major move in the streaming world. After a five-year tenure on HBO Max, the entire library of the Comedy Central show, spanning 26 seasons, departed the Warner Bros. Discovery service on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. The show’s new exclusive streaming home is now Paramount+.
This transition consolidates the satirical comedy under the umbrella of its parent company, Paramount Global. The move is the result of a massive five-year licensing deal between Paramount and Park County, the entertainment company founded by “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. According to reports, the landmark deal is valued at approximately $1.5 billion, ensuring the show’s continuation on Comedy Central and establishing Paramount+ as its definitive streaming hub.
For the past five years, HBO Max subscribers in the United States have had access to the extensive back catalog of the series, which first premiered in 1997. Now, fans will need a Paramount+ subscription to access all 392 episodes of the first 26 seasons, as well as the currently airing Season 27. According to USA TODAY, new episodes will be available to stream on Paramount+ the day after they air on Comedy Central.
The 27th season has already kicked off with a significant amount of buzz and controversy. The premiere episode, titled “Sermon on the Mount,” which aired on July 23, depicted former President Donald Trump in a controversial scene with his lover, Satan. The episode sparked a response from the White House, with a spokesperson stating the show “hasn’t been relevant for over 20 years.” Despite this, or perhaps because of it, the premiere was a ratings success. Paramount Global reported that it was the show’s most-watched season premiere since 1999, with viewership up 68% from the Season 26 premiere.
