7-Eleven Celebrates 98th Birthday with Free Slurpees, “Tongue-toos,” and More on July 11

The iconic convenience store chain, 7-Eleven, is gearing up for its annual Free Slurpee Day on July 11, 2025, marking its 98th birthday with a frosty celebration and exciting new twists. Customers nationwide can look forward to a complimentary small Slurpee, along with innovative “Tongue-toos” and a host of other promotions.

On Friday, July 11, fans can visit any participating 7-Eleven, Speedway, or Stripes location across the country to receive one free small Slurpee. This beloved tradition, which began in 2002 to commemorate the company’s 75th anniversary, is available while supplies last, with no purchase necessary. Some locations, as reported by OregonLive, may offer the free treat between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., so it’s wise to plan your visit accordingly.

This year’s celebration introduces a unique element: “Tongue-toos.” These first-of-their-kind temporary tongue tattoos are activated by sipping a Slurpee, leaving a temporary “S” mark on your tongue in vibrant colors like blue, green, red, or purple. Inspired by the signature color left behind by Slurpee drinks, these playful additions are available to 7Rewards and Speedy Rewards members at select locations. For instance, The Courier-Journal notes that 7-Eleven locations in cities such as Chicago, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Norfolk, Orlando, Philadelphia, San Diego, Tampa, and Washington, D.C., will offer these. Speedway locations in Albuquerque, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Greenville, Indianapolis, Louisville, and Minneapolis-St. Paul will also participate.

Loyalty members are in for an even sweeter deal. By scanning their 7Rewards or Speedy Rewards app on July 11, members will receive a coupon for an additional free small Slurpee, redeemable anytime through July 31. This provides a double opportunity to enjoy the frozen delight throughout the month, as highlighted by The New York Post and Today.com.

Adding to the excitement, the fan-favorite Mountain Dew Infinite Swirl flavor is making a grand return. This refreshing blue pineapple-berry blend will be available in Slurpee and Big Gulp varieties, as well as in 20-ounce bottles, offering multiple ways to enjoy this popular taste.

Beyond the in-store giveaways, 7-Eleven is extending its birthday festivities with several other promotions. Customers who prefer to celebrate from home can get $7.11 off a minimum $20 purchase on the 7NOW Delivery app by using the promo code “711DAY” on July 11. For those looking to fully embrace the Slurpee spirit, the retailer’s official online merchandise shop, 7Collection, features a special Birthday Collection capsule, including everything from candles and balloons to a full-body Slurpee costume. Furthermore, 7-Eleven is offering customers the chance to win $5,000 daily through an in-app game on the 7-Eleven and Speedway apps, a promotion running until January 6, 2026, according to RGJ.com.

The Slurpee itself has a rich history, dating back to 1965 when 7-Eleven licensed the frozen drink technology from Omar Knedlik, who developed the “Icee” machine. The company, originally founded in Dallas in 1927 by “Uncle Johnny” Jefferson Green, adopted the name “7-Eleven” in 1946 to reflect its extended operating hours of 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., a significant shift for convenience stores at the time. Today, most locations operate 24/7, continuing to serve as a staple for quick stops and refreshing treats.

Whether you’re stopping by for a classic Cherry or Blue Raspberry Slurpee, trying the returning Mountain Dew Infinite Swirl, or experimenting with a “Tongue-too,” 7-Eleven’s 98th birthday promises a cool and flavorful celebration for everyone.
